![]() Of course there was still all the drama needed to sell the show, but it was a real Academy where people learn something and compete. There have been a few seasons and most of the winners have become big stars in France and beyond. ) and it was amazing to see the contestants mature and become real show biz professionals as the weeks went by. They had amazing teachers (pro dancers, pro singers, choreographers) spend the whole time with them and prepare for the weekly live show, and on top of that they had mega Pop Stars visit them and perform with them (to cite a few, Celine Dion, Ray Charles, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Beyoncé. They used to put a bunch of talented singers/dancers in a castle for a few weeks and have them train on all professional aspects of being a "Pop Star". There used to be this reality TV show on the French TV called "Star Academy" (there is a new version but I don't know if it is as good). My problem with this show is that there is no "Academy" in there, besides the name. So even though Tarmo and Eric and Mia and Brittany and the others lost, they all kind of won anyway. And then, if we all watch it a bunch and support the show (even if that feels a lot like drinking the KoolAid) it will pave the way for more mountain bike content that will build the sport. I bet a couple more riders will land some support from this. Plus we got to meet and see Eric, Mia, Ares, Brody, and Brittany and the rest shred lines and show us their personalities. ![]() ![]() For sure that guy got more exposure and notoriety from the show and will probably land a killer deal that was directly related to this show. Orbea got the content creator/rider they were looking for and Pinkbike showcased Tarmo for the insanely fast trail ripper that he is. ![]() Regardless of who we wanted to win or who we were supporting on the show, isn’t it great that Outside/Pinkbike spent a ton of production money to showcase a bunch of riders and elevate them to a broader, global stage? When looking at Pinkbike Academy from that perspective, there are no losers here. I’m just a random guy from Utah that loves riding mountain bikes. And I don’t have anything to do with Orbea or Pinkbike. ![]()
